Bio-District Governor Darwin Mathwig
Lion Darwin is a member of the Arlington Lions Club. He has been an active member since joining in 1979. He does not have perfect attendance but rarely misses a meeting or Lions sponsored event. He has served his club 3 times as president. He has chaired or co-chaired numerous club events and helped with planning of others. Darwin claim to fame over the years has been his involvement with the Lions Youth Exchange program and has served in that capacity on both the District and Multiple District level for 12 years. He has also been the Camp Co-coordinator for Camp Spicer for many years. He has been a Zone and Region chair. Darwin is a graduate of the first Lions Leadership Institute held in the Multiple District.
Darwin is fortunate to have received several awards for his contributions to Lions. He has received an International Leadership award and the Presidential Certificate of Appreciation. Darwin is a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Helen Keller Sight Award recipient.
Darwin and Lion Nancy have enjoyed being Lions together and attending many Multiple and District conventions. They have also attended 4 International conventions and 6 USA/Canada Leadership Forums.
Darwin is employed by Mid America Plastics in Shakopee as a Shipping/Receiving/Warehouse Manager.
Darwin has been involved with his community for many years. He has served on City council for 9 years. He was a volunteer firefighter and retired after 20 years and also served on the Ambulance department for 16 years. He is an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington.
Nancy is a Registered Nurse and at the present time works in the Medical Claims Department with American Family Insurance. In her spare time she enjoys reading and her flower garden. In his spare time, Darwin enjoys anything that can be done outdoors, learning how to make homemade beer or falling asleep watching TV.
Darwin and Nancy have been married for 36 years and have 3 adult children, Derek, Sean and Amber.
